Do you ever wonder what God’s will is? Sometimes we may think it seems mystical or hard to discover. We can wonder, “What does God want me to do?” or “What is God’s will for my life?” The simple answer is that His will for our life is that we be holy. This is easy to affirm with our lips, but it is very difficult to have it take root in our minds and hearts, especially as it plays out in our relationships (see Knowing God’s Will additional resource for more). 1 Thessalonians 4:4 helps us immensely by giving clear direction to what is God’s will. It is His will that we are sanctified specifically in the area of sexual purity.

Evaluate:

  • In what ways has the standard of sex and purity been trivialized in our culture?

  • What does it mean to be sanctified? (see "Sanctified" additional resource for more)

  • How does sexual purity look for you as a single, dating, or married couple?

Reflect:

  • Reread verses 1-2. These verses are so encouraging! Not only can we live to please God, we can do it more and more. Obedience is not only possible, but it can grow more and more in our lives.

  • Would you say obedience in sexual purity is increasing more and more in your life?

  • In 1 Cor. 6:19-20 and 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8, Paul connects our purity to the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of the Christ follower...what is significant about this?
