There is a problem with the myth of finding the right person then everything will be alright. The truth is: No human will ever complete you. Our hearts will never be truly satisfied in a human relationship because we were made to be in fellowship with our Creator. But our hearts are easily deceived, and we can often return to the myth of trying to find completeness through our friendships, dating, and marriage.

In Colossians 2, the author Paul continues writing about the supremacy of Christ and how we have been brought to fullness in Him (v. 10).

Evaluate:

  • Do you find yourself jumping from relationship to relationship, hoping to find fulfillment?
  • If married, how have you placed expectations on your spouse to fulfill your needs rather than Christ?
  • If single, how do you have to change your expectations of your future spouse in light of the fact that no human will ever fulfill you?
  • Have you found ultimate fulfillment in being forgiven and restored to a relationship with God? Have questions about this? We’d love to help. Contact us at info@northridgerochester.com.

reflect:

  • Make a list of the spiritual blessings of salvation you have received in Jesus. (see also Ephesians 1:3-14)

  • Spend some time meditating on that list and praising God.
